Since 2016, students at the Centre for Hellenic Studies, W.A. have been participating in the AUSIT's WA annual Greek translation competition, successfully.
We are very pleased to announce that in 2021. there were 11 entries 7 in the junior and 4 in the senior category. In this competition, students were asked to translate a text from Greek into their mother tongue and more specifically they were able το convey their linguistic competency by transferring their comprehension skills from one language into another.
On behalf of the Centre for Hellenic Studies, we would like to extend our congratulations to all our participants for their outstanding written translation results in the most recent competition. Bravo, to all our "metafrastes"!
Here is the list of our winners:
Junior Category: 2021 Winner of the Young Translator's Award: ALEXANDROS TSITIRIDIS
Second Award: KONSTANTINOS SMYRNIOTIS
Outstanding Merit Awards: VIRGINIA ROUKOUNAKIS and THEODOROS SMYRNIOTIS
Senior Category: 2021 Equal Winners of the Young Translator's Award: VASILIS KERR and LUKAS CRISTOPOULOS
The young "metafrastes" were privileged to attend the AUSIT ceremony where each one was awarded with a translation certificate by the Chair of WA AUSIT, held at the University of Western Australia.. In fact, during the ceremony, all our "metafrastes" were actively involved by representing their school with the song, 'ENA TO CHELIDONI" in honour to Mikis Theodorakis which was very well received by the audience.
